Many long term tenants love their National Trust homes having come to terms with living in old properties. This will lead you to the National Trust Website for prospective tenants and provide lots of information with a list of current NT homes to let.

As you will see , priority is given to applicants who can bring relative skills to the area and contribute to the local community.

All tenants from 1st May 2026 will have an assured periodic tenancy (APT).

You do need to establish the heating / energy costs for the property as old houses are difficult and expensive to heat with greater risk of mould and damp. Some NT homes are Grade 2 Listed which imposes restrictions on what can be done to the property with planning permission / approval.

The lease will clarify any restrictions on parking including caravans , motor homes and boats.

Some properties have additional issues which the Trust should clarify when providing details of the property.

Most have gardens which will need looking after and bring much enjoyment.

For those who go on to be National Trust tenants , you will get a Residential Tenants Handbook.
