Melvyn Angell
I was Managing Director of Warner Bros Cinemas and responsible for the development, building and operation of multiplex cinemas in the UK and parts of Europe. Subsequently I was Chief Operating Officer of a media company owned by my wife Sylvia which we floated in the City on A.I.M. Upon retiring we moved from Hertfordshire to the Isle of Wight and welcomed the serenity of the Island after our busy and stressful commercial work life.
We took the tenancy of a National Trust cottage in April 2023 and inherited a completely overgrown wilderness of a Victorian walled garden and a property heated by an old, inadequate air source heat pump. After two years of negotiation we persuaded the Trust to replace it with a boiler and radiator system.
Based on that experience I have a strong interest in encouraging the Trust to adopt the heating systems appropriate to each property and in doing so is also aware of the cost to tenants of their operation. I am also concerned to ensure the Trust adopts firm control over the quality and promptness of maintenance and repairs.
After a conversation with Peter Bate I have joined the Committee and look forward to supporting it and tenants utilising my 50 years’ experience in a business environment.
