Hearty congratulations to our Patron, Michael Eavis CBE, on being awarded a Knighthood in the 2024 New Year List!
What a brilliant start to 2024 – our Patron, Michael Eavis CBE, has been awarded a Knighthood in the New Year Honours List for his contribution to music and his charitable work.
His charitable work very much includes his provision of land and motivation for three affordable housing developments in Somerset with homes for local people that are for rent only forever. The land cost and usual developer’s profit was removed keeping the costs down, and therefore, the rents are much lower.
Our President, Andrew Turner-Cross, is working to help bring forward a similar project in Slindon, West Sussex with National Trust land. Unfortunately it is currently rather bogged down in red tape but we will continue to help where we can.
We share our Patron’s vision for more rural affordable housing to tackle ever spiralling rents. We will continue to press the NT to take an active lead in offering land for affordable housing.
